How many reels to post a day (and how many trial reels)

There's no magic number, but there's a pace that works. How many reels to post a day per account, how many trial reels, and what changes when you run several accounts.

For an account that wants to grow, one to three reels a day, every day, is the pace that works best. Less than that leaves the account idle; much more usually lowers quality and splits your audience's attention across similar videos. The exact number matters less than keeping the pace week after week.

Instagram doesn't publish an ideal number, and it doesn't punish posting a lot. What limits you is what you can sustain with quality.

Why consistency beats volume

The algorithm shows each video to a small group first and expands it if that group watches. Two consequences:

  • Each reel is judged on its own. Ten in one day don't add up to more reach; they're ten separate tests, and the weak ones don't help the strong ones.
  • An account that disappears loses its audience's habit. Twenty on Monday and nothing until next Monday starts from zero.

So three good reels a day, every day, beat twenty in a day and none for the rest of the week.

How many reels a day, by stage

StageReels per dayFocus
New account (first weeks)1 to 2finding the format that holds
Growing account2 to 3repeating what worked, with variations
Large account1 to 3keeping the standard without tiring the audience

Product-finds and clipping accounts usually sit at the top of the range, because they have raw material every day. More produced content (recipes, tutorials) sits in the middle.

And how many trial reels?

A trial reel is shown first only to people who don't follow you. It's for finding out whether a hook works before showing it to followers, not for posting more.

One to three trials a day per account is enough. Each trial should compare one thing only (the hook, the cover, the length), otherwise the result teaches nothing.

Meta also limits how many trials each account runs per day (around twenty, from what we see through the official API). If you're close to that, the problem isn't the limit: it's the method.

What changes with several accounts

The question stops being "how many a day" and becomes "how many a day on each account, without repeating the file".

  • Count per account, not in total. Ten accounts with two reels each is twenty posts a day. Each account needs its own pace.
  • Don't post the same file everywhere. That's the pattern that makes several accounts go down at once. Each account should get a different version of the video.
  • Spread the times. Ten accounts posting in the same minute look like a bot. A few minutes apart costs nothing.
  • Test on one, spread to the others. Use a trial reel on one account to find the hook and take the winner to the rest.

On DevX Viral you build the day for every account at once: pick the videos, the accounts and the spacing, and each account gets its own version at its own time. See multi-page posting.

Is there a limit on how many reels I can post?

In the app, Instagram doesn't state a number. Through the official API there's a per-account cap every 24 hours, well above what a healthy account uses. Details in how many posts a day Instagram accepts through the API.

Frequently asked questions

Does posting many reels a day hurt the account? Instagram doesn't punish the quantity itself. What hurts is posting weak or repeated videos, which pull down the account's average retention.

What's the best time to post reels? Your account's: when your followers are online. It shows in your professional account's insights. See the best time to post reels.

How many reels a week? If one a day isn't possible, three to five a week, regularly, is the minimum to keep the account from cooling down.
