How to post on TikTok and Instagram at the same time

There's no native button that posts to both. How to post the same video to TikTok, Reels and Shorts without a watermark and without losing reach.

Neither TikTok nor Instagram has a button that posts to both at the same time. Either you post twice, once in each app, or you use a tool that posts to both from a single upload. Either way, what decides reach is posting the clean video, without the other app's watermark.

The most common mistake: downloading from TikTok and posting to Reels

A video downloaded from a published TikTok carries the TikTok watermark. On Instagram that's a clear sign of content from another app, and that kind of video tends to be recommended less.

The right move is to keep the original file, the one that came out of your editor before going to any app, and post that file to both.

  • Edited in CapC•t or a desktop editor? Export and keep the file.
  • Edited inside TikTok? Save the video to your device before publishing (on the posting screen), not after.

Option 1: post to both by hand

  1. Export the final video in vertical format (9:16).
  2. Post it on TikTok.
  3. Post the same original file on Instagram as a reel.
  4. Adjust the caption for each app: hashtags and call to action change from one to the other.

Works well for one account on each network.

Option 2: a tool that posts to both

A publishing tool connects TikTok, Instagram and YouTube through each network's official authorization and posts the same video to all three, at the time you choose.

On DevX Viral, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube share one calendar: upload the video once, pick the accounts and schedule. See multi-page posting.

Adjust for each network

  • Length. Short videos (under a minute) work on all three. Beyond that, check each network's limit for short-form.
  • Caption and hashtags. What works on TikTok doesn't always work on Instagram. The hashtag generator separates them by network.
  • On-screen text. Keep it away from the edges: each app puts buttons and captions in different places.
  • Timing. Each network's audience is online at different times. See the best time to post reels.

When you have several accounts on each network

Then the concern changes: it's not just the watermark, it's the identical file on every account, which is what makes several accounts go down at once. Each account should get a different version of the video.

Frequently asked questions

Can you post to TikTok and Instagram at the same time? Not from the apps themselves. You can post to both in sequence or use a tool that posts to both from one upload.

Should I post the same video on TikTok and Instagram? Yes, as long as it's the original file, without the TikTok watermark.

Can you post to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube at the same time? With a publishing tool that connects all three, yes. Instagram can also share the reel to the linked Facebook Page.
